Membership at Burnish during Phase 2

As Whatcom County has moved to Phase 2 of the Safe Start reopening strategy, Burnish is offering Open Studio hours for people to work in the studio working at 25% capacity.
 - Dec 2020 Update: we are adding a limited number of additional members beginning in January 2021. If you have any clay experience and want to start with a monthly membership while we have paused classes you are welcome to submit an application below.

Some of the ways we have re-opened safely include:
  • Masks must be worn at all times
  • Wheels & work tables are all be 6-feet apart. One person per work table.
  • Time in the studio will be scheduled by each person, and will specify between Wheel or Hand Building/Glazing. We are using a space reservation system called Skedda.
    • There is a limit of 3 hours per person per day on the time to make reservations. If there is space available at the end of your appointment you may stay beyond the reservation time.
  • Studio Kitchen is available to re-fill your own cup or water bottle. One person at a time in the kitchen.
  • Each person will be responsible for sanitizing their workspace and any shared studio tools at the end of their session.
  • We will still fire pieces for those who would prefer to continue working from home, but drop off can happen without an appointment during our Retail hours, which are Wed-Sat Noon-5pm. These are the hours listed on our Google info page, Facebook, and website footer if you are ever trying to quickly and easily find that information.
The membership fee is $130 plus sales tax, billed monthly. If you pay with a check or cash you will receive a 3% discount. Fill out the form to the right to apply for membership. Due to a weird system glitch I have made all fields technically "optional" but I ask that you do complete every question.

Open Studio Hours: The times available for open studio appointments are not the same as our posted Retail hours to provide  staffing flexibility while usage of the studio is slower.
 Open Studio Hours:
  • Tues: 8AM - 9PM (no clay or tool sales available before noon - Jeremy will open up the studio but this is his focused work time so he is unavailable to provide any studio assistance)
  • Wed & Thur: Noon - 9PM
  • Fri & Sat: Noon - 6PM
  • Sun & Mon: Closed
  Program Details:
  • Members are expected to be able to work independently - no instruction is included in the membership fee.
  • Members will have 1 dedicated shelf (fits 4 ware boards - each 14 in x 24 in) and a cubby.
  • Members may work on their own making cycle schedule. They are not required to follow the class timeline that includes restrictions on completion of wet work or glaze deadlines.
  • Members may purchase any of the white clay bodies stocked in our store for $30 that includes the fees for bisque and glaze firings and access to use the studio glazes, slips, stains, and minimal amounts of underglazes. Members who wish to decorate extensively with underglazes or use specific colors not a part of the studio palette must purchase their own.
  • Work made from studio clay will be fired along with the student work. Members may request approval to use alternate clay (white or buff only) and glazes, subject to review to ensure appropriate cone ranges are understood and followed.
  • If non-studio clay and/or glazes are used, then member must  pay a firing fee.

  • Open Studio Time is shared by both members and adult students.
  • BCS reserves the right to close open studio for special classes or workshops.
  • BCS reserves the right to refuse service. If a member is found to  not be a good fit for the studio their membership will be cancelled and refunded on a pro-rated basis. Potential reasons for cancellation include not following the rules and policies of the studio, or aggressive/rude behavior towards students or other members.
