Saturday 11/12, 1-4 pm with Jordan Jones. Jordan will show a detailed demonstration of her surface decorating techniques and then coach participants through trying them out on their own leather hard pieces. Jordan works with a primary focus on developing surfaces for soda firing, but the techniques are applicable for all types of firings.
Sold out
- Participants should bring a minimum of 3 leather hard pieces to practice on - flat pieces like plates and shallow bowls are easier to start with, but more vertical pieces like cups or planters are welcome too. We will have a limited number of slabs available as well.
- These techniques will work with all types of clay, but clay bodies with less grog gives you a smoother carving and crisper line work.
- A limited number of carving tools will be available to use during the class, but if you have your own already please bring them to the class. Jordan recommends:
- Ball stylus is the primary tool
- Any carving tool will work
- fluffy paint brush for crumb removal is helpful
- All skill levels are welcome, although this is a class for people who are already working with clay. This is not a "try it out" class for people wanting to experience playing with clay for the 1st time.
Jordan Jones lives on Whidbey Island and creates functional pottery with playful and lively animals carved onto her pots. She creates stories and scenes with these critters, they are characters that people can see, relate, and connect with. Like many potters, she believes that using handmade objects brings joy to people in their daily lives.
Aside from clay, she enjoys plants and animals. She tends to a small garden and variety of houseplants, and enjoys the company of a flock of mischievous chickens, two sassy goats, two nosey geese, one very silly bully mix dog, and two very elderly cats.
