Wednesday 3/13/19 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Slabs & Sgraffito with Jennifer Yates. Bring your own beverage and join us for a three hour workshop where the instructor will show you how to transfer the outline of a simple design image from paper onto a slab of clay. You will first paint a colored slip all over the slab, transfer the outline of the design, and then scratch through and scrape off some of the slip to fill in the design, and then finally turn that slab into either a plate, bowl, or small vase. Bring a design with you printed on an 8.5x11 paper or choose from a selection we will have already printed. We will provide a cup for your BYO beverage, the tools, clay, and anything else you need. All you have to do is relax, get your hands dirty, and have a good time. All experience levels welcome! Completed works will be available for pick up around 2 weeks later.
Design Criteria: the design should be no more than 4 inches square and simple - more of a sillouette / outline. Think old-school clip art rather than a fancy GIF. The design can be any subject mater - an animal, plant or flower, tools, symbols, etc. Try a google image search of "simple sillouette design" and then add in the subject matter you are interested in. Please be cautious if downloading designs from free websites - make sure your virus scanner is up to date. Below are some examples of the types of pieces that can be made with this process.
