Fridays 9/15 - 10/20 6-8:30 PM with Jeremy Noet (he/him) - this 5+ week class will culminate in a soda firing. Jeremy will spend 4 weeks covering how to make forms to maximize the benefits of firing in a cone 10 soda kiln and 1 week on glazing for soda before the loading and firing of the kiln. Class fee includes 1 half cubic foot of space in the soda kiln, with the option of purchasing another half or full cubic foot. The class schedule is outlined in detail below.
Access to Open studio will end on Fri 10/20 with this class. If you would like to continue beyond that, you can add on Independent Study for the remainder of Fall by checking the box below.
Current members who sign up for this class will not have to give up their member shelf for the duration of the class. Your membership invoices for September and October would be pro-rated to subtract the class weeks.

Sold out
- Classes 1 - 4, Fri 9/15-10/6 6-8:30 PM: make pieces
- No class Fri 10/13: skip 1 week to allow time for you to finish pieces, get them dry, & through the bisque.
- Class 5 - Fri 10/20 6-8:30 PM: Glaze and flashing slip application. If you don’t finish glazing your pieces, you can finish Saturday morning.
- Load soda Sun 10/22 10am-5pm: If you want to help with the loading you will sign up for one 2 hour shift - you will not have to be at the loading all day. Each shift of 2-3 participants will help complete one of the 3 stacks in the kiln. You will help roll wadding, glue wads to pots, and bring posts and shelves over to the kiln.
- Fire soda Mon 10/23: Most of the firing process is sitting around watching numbers crawl up the pyrometer (kiln thermometer) and nudging the gas lever up and down bit by bit - it is even less thrilling than it sounds and there is no need for participants to be there for the duration, although you are welcome to come for any or all of it. The exciting part of the firing will happen in the late afternoon/early evening when it is time to make the soda burritos and toss them in the kiln. Participants are welcome to come, but not required to.
- Unload soda Fri 10/27 6-8:30 PM: Participants will unload the kiln, scraping/cleaning kiln shelves and posts and reapplying kiln wash as you go. You will then discuss the results of the finished pieces.
