Class Details:
- Hand Building with Hilde Schaaf (she/her) - Monday 9/16-11/18, 12:30 PM-3:00 PM: During this 10 week class, students will create work every week based on the three ways to hand build a Piece: Coil, Slab, and Pinch. In addition, students will learn to build there own bisque mold, templates, and texture. We will also cover basic glazing techniques using slip, stain, and different surface designs. If the students have taken the class before, the instructor will focus on working one on one to bring any ideas they have to life. If the student is a beginner, the instructor will cover all of the basics of handbuilding so that the student finishes the class having learned a wide variety of skills.
- Sculpture / Hand Building with Sara Young (she/her) - Sunday 9/22-11/24, 1:30 PM-4:00 PM: All experience levels welcome including no experience at all. The class will focus more on the formal and conceptual elements of sculpture and less on the skill building. However, slab, coiling, slump molds, pinch pots, and surface design will be thoroughly covered. We will talk about luminaries, hanging sculpture on walls and from ceilings, as well as public/outdoor/garden art. We will talk about clay as a conceptual medium, as well as what makes a piece “work”. Bring any and all ideas you have to class, and be prepared to get messy.
