Materials & Services
Burnish provides several options to help support artists with home studios or who have short term project needs. The two primary services are kiln rental and the sale of tools and materials. Other services may be available upon request - tell us what you need and we will see if we can accommodate you. However, we cannot provide hourly studio use - general access to the studio and equipment to practice or to make work must be through a class, workshop, or membership. Managing storage of works in progress and orientation/cleanliness of the studio makes general hourly studio rental unsupportable at this point in time.
Kiln Rental
BCS has 2 Crucible electric kiln with Bartlett automatic controllers as well as a gas Soft Brick Car Kiln for most of the studio firings and a gas Hard Brick kiln for Soda firing. Click here for more information about kiln rentals.
Tools and Materials
We are partnering with the Clay Art Center in Tacoma to provide local access to clay, tools, and other materials. We stock a number of items on-site including (but not limited to):
Consolidated ordering services from Clay Art Center is also available for those that need specific items but want to avoid the traffic filled trip South. CAC has a minimum order weight of 2,000 lbs. to ship via freight services, or 10,000 lbs to deliver directly. Most of that weight will come from clay, but they will add any tools, glazes, or raw materials on top. I hope to meet the 2,000 lb threshold to order once per month, but that will depend on the orders placed and the rate of clay use in the studio. For more information or to place an order, email info@burnishclaystudio.com with a list of items and quantities and we will provide a quote that includes the added fee for shipping & handling.
Raw glaze materials are available to purchase in the studio on a limited basis. Basically, if we are using it for our own studio slips and glazes we may be able to provide small quantities if you are in a pinch or just need a bit for testing. Send us an email at info@burnishclaystudio.com or call the studio to determine if we can provide the ingredient(s) you need.
