Studio Policies
Class Fees
Unless noted otherwise in the class description, the fee to register for an ongoing class includes access to the studio to practice and make work during Open Studio Hours. No clay is included in ongoing adult classes for tax reasons. Clay is sold in 25 pound bags and includes the cost of glazes and firing fees for the pieces made from that clay and sales tax. Due to the quickly rising cost of materials, you will need to check in the studio to learn the current clay prices, but expect it to be in the $40-$50 per bag range.
Discount for cash or check payments
A 3% discount will be applied for all cash or check payment transactions. Cash and check payments can only be completed on site in the studio.
Cancellation, Withdrawal & Refund Policy
Minimum Age Requirements
Only students ages 16 and up are eligible to register for adult classes.
Register On-Line or In Person
You can register on-line with a credit card. If you must pay for the class with cash or a check, then speak with the Director in advance to manage. Full payment is required at the time of registration. You will receive an email with class details and additional information or instructions before classes begin.
WS Sales Tax
Per WA state tax laws monthly membership fees are subject to sales tax but classes are not. Sales tax is applied to all clay, tools, materials, and firing fees.
Clay Recycling
Students and members are welcome to reclaim/recycle their own excess clay but the processing must be kept within your own cubby or shelf area. Any clay placed in the studio reclaim buckets will be recycled and may be sold back to students or members at a discounted rate.

Tools
- Students are welcome to use the studio tools at the start to ensure they are committed to clay as an ongoing hobby. Talk to the director, your teacher, or a studio monitor if you need any tools or materials not available in the tool storage areas.
- Once a student knows they want to work with clay ongoing, it is recommended that they begin to build out their personal tool kids. Basic tool kits are available in BCC’s Retail Store. A wide variety of other tools are available for purchase as well. You are not required to purchase tools from Burnish, a number of online retailers have a wide variety of tools to purchase, but we do appreciate the support.
- It is strongly recommended you write your name on each of your tools with a permanent marker. All the basic tools are identical from person to person and it can be difficult to keep track of which tools are yours.
- Never take tools or materials from the retail space without paying for them. Items removed from the retail space without permission or proper payment (even if you intended to pay for it later) will be considered theft.
Open Studio
- The tuition for regular adult classes includes access to open studio time. Open studio will be any time the studio is open for business, except when a class is in progress. Business hours are subject to change and will be posted online and at the studio. Hours of availability will evolve over time as we learn what you want and need. We welcome your feedback regarding preferred hours of open studio.
- If a class is focused in one area of the studio, the other work areas can be used during that class time. For example, during the hand building or children's class times the wheel area can be used for open studio.
- Open Studio Time for Students is shared with the Studio Members.
- BCS reserves the right to close open studio for special classes or workshops.
