The Journey Began...

2/10/2019

We made it through the first week! It has been a roller-coaster, but definitely many more ups than down. It is really hard to put in to words how it feels to see my dream become a reality, and to have so many people come in to look around or use the space. We had classes and a clay play event, members got set up to start making pots, people were able to come in and buy clay and tools without driving all the way to Seattle... Overall it has been so much fun!

Some of the first highlights include:
Picture
  • First wheel class with Jeremy Noet spinning up through the first snow of the season.

  • First hand building class with Ann Marie Cooper showing off her pinching techniques to make small sculptures.

  • First Pots & Pints night with Jennifer Yates playing with colors and showing how to do simple design transfer and sgraffito. We had people new to clay in the class, but we also had a couple of experienced members participate so they could learn a new technique.
  • First Raku party with the beautiful new kiln Jesse Rasmussen built us sadly had to be cancelled due to the weather. Windy and 20 degree weather do not make good conditions for hanging out outside playing with fire… but I am so happy he was able to find a red barrel for us! It's always critical to ensure your raku kiln matches the color of your logo...

  • First building emergency when Chief Inspector Dylan accidentally got locked in the kitchen, which is the only door I didn’t have a key for. Luckily the crew from Bellingham Lock & Safe were able to come on the run to rescue him.

  • First day as our studio tech Zoe Petersen began transferring the glaze ingredients out of their bags and into easier to handle containers so that we can start mixing up the shop glazes this week. She also cleaned and sorted through the mountain of tools that have been donated by several generous souls.
This week we will have to see how the weather continues to develop as we may need to adjust the schedule to keep everyone safe, but it is definitely a good thing we are closed on Mondays. We do have a sold-out Valentines Date Night, but there are still seats available in the Clay Play with Platters on Saturday with guest artist CJ Carter.

I hope you come on down to the studio soon to check out the gallery show and take a look around our new space! Dylan and I look forward to seeing you here.
